Description:

This course is designed for professionals and amateurs interested in developing their organoleptic analysis skills and gaining a deeper theoretical knowledge of the world of mezcal. Students are invited to awaken their sensory abilities and become proficient in everything there is to know about the Denomination of Origin Mezcal and its associated states.

Registration for the Mezcal Specialist Course is open to anyone (over legal drinking age in their place of residence) in front-line hospitality industry, travel & tourism sectors, alcohol retailers, bars & restaurants, importers/exporters & brand ambassadors, wholesale, and retail sectors of the food and beverage industry, anyone considering a career as a professional sommelier, or anyone interested in learning more about agave spirits history, production, service standards, and food pairing concepts.

  • The course is intense and fast-paced, covering a lot of information (and by no means all) about the world of mezcal and other agave spirits, as well as several tasting exercises, and food pairing concepts.

The examination consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, fill in the blank, matching, and open ended paragraph questions reflecting the content of the course and handbook and must be completed within 50 minutes. A minimum score of 80% is required to earn the Mezcal Specialist Certification and lapel pin.

  • After passing the Mezcal Specialist Course and Examination, students are eligible to register for the Certified Mezcal Sommelier Course and Examination.
  • Tutoring and re-examination fee: $200
